SOCIAL FARMS AND ETHOLOGICAL PARKS: A MODEL OF CIVIL ECONOMY TO MAKE THE TERRITORIES ATTRACTIVE AND INCLUSIVE

Salvatore Esposito, Adriana Maestro

Abstract

The article presents a model of good practice of cooperation between the third sector and public authorities in the promotion of productive and inclusive processes of civil economy: social agriculture, short chain of product marketing, territorial ethological parks, integrated processes ofhigher education. The economic activities to enhance the genius loci not only promote sustainable economies and fulfill a strategic function of protection and maintenance of territories, but make them attractive and inclusive. Multifunctional agriculture and community welfare, in fact, are integrated into a new concept of care of all living species and respect for the finite resources of the planet. It is a generative economic model of opportunity and reciprocity, realized through the participation of local public actors, the third sector and world of business and work: a form of territorial sovereignty with a long-term perspective that makes economic activities efficient, effective and even globally applicable.

Mediterraneo Sociale scarl - a network of social farms and parks - is currently building a functional plan for the reutilization of abandoned public and private properties (state-owned lands and former convents). A practice of Local Sustainable Communitiesis thus realized, which focuses on the quality of productive life compatible with the quality of reproductive life.  This is a model of mutual economy  anticipated in the philosophy of Antonio Genovesi in the second half of the eighteenth century. This approach to earth and artifacts, including through a new model of industrial conversion, can restore hope in the future for the new generations and the living species of the planet, in a balance with the natural habitat. An integrated ecology and sustainable ethology that can become a spiritual and ethical outline more compatible with the fragility and interdependence of living beings, for the possible good life.
